Daily denture and mouth care
Dentures should be removed and cleaned daily using methods appropriate for the material. The tongue, gums and any remaining teeth also need care. Unless advised otherwise, removing dentures during sleep gives the supporting tissues a rest. Hot water, harsh abrasives and unsupervised repairs can damage the appliance.
Even people with no natural teeth benefit from periodic oral examinations. Denture fit, tissue health, bite and oral lining can change. A denture that has become loose, painful or repeatedly fractured should be assessed. Adhesive may help in selected situations, but it should not hide a denture that needs professional review.
